RFC 1149
RFC 1149 - Standard for the transmission of IP datagrams on avian carriers by David Waitzman is the most funny RFC I have read in a long time. There are more background details elsewhere of how IP over Avian Carriers (IPoAC) became reality. Several of the best parts from the original RFC 1149:
- “Avian carriers can provide high delay, low throughput, and low altitude service.”
- “The carriers have an intrinsic collision avoidance system, which increases availability.”
- “The bandwidth is limited to the leg length. The MTU is variable, and paradoxically, generally increases with increased carrier age.”
- “With time, the carriers are self-regenerating.”
- “Audit trails are automatically generated, and can often be found on logs and cable trays.”
