Nvidia bought ~4% of Intel

Nvidia bought ~4% of Intel stock to boost their own competitor. While that might seem odd, one has to remember that Intel still holds the key technologies for traditional x86 CPU computing.

By increasing collaboration, they might both benefit from it in the future by sharing part of the technology patents each has. At the same time, it is increasingly centralising the corporate power towards Nvidia that has successfully increased it’s own valuation in the past decade.

Another side of the deal it is about maintaining the U.S. geopolitical interests by keeping Intel technology alive. Even with all of the problems and challenges of the past several decades, there are still massive amounts of people depending on the tools and systems developed by Intel. Future keeps being uncertain, but at least now it has more time to stay in the business.
